Palm Springs City Council Approves Tripled Funding for Greater Palm Springs Pride

The Palm Springs City Council unanimously approved a substantial funding increase for Greater Palm Springs Pride on Wednesday, tripling the city's annual support from $125,000 to $350,000.

The increased funding will remain in effect through 2027, when the city's current sponsorship commitment expires. According to the staff report from the city manager and director of parks and recreation, the appropriation will provide in-kind services including public safety, law enforcement, public works, and parks and recreation support to help execute the event.

Jasmine Sullivan-Waits, executive director of Greater Palm Springs Pride, said the city's support follows its standard practice for major community events. "If you think about the Palm Springs Film Festival, the city sponsors that event both in kind services and direct funds," Sullivan-Waits said. "It is very common, especially for the city of Palm Spring,s because they really embrace community and they embrace events."

Palm Springs Pride draws over 200,000 visitors annually, generating significant economic impact and tourism revenue for the region.

Mayor Ron deHarte was recused from the vote due to his role as CEO of the Pride organization.

Greater Palm Springs Pride Week is scheduled for November 6-9, culminating with the Palm Springs Pride Parade on November 9.
