Palm Desert Flag Football Wins Big, Firebirds Lose In Calgary
It was an epic night under the Friday Night Lights as La Quinta won a thriller at home against the Shadow Hills Knights. But the game everyone is talking about is Palm Desert hosting Palm Springs. The Indians came into Aztec territory touting a perfect 8-0 season, but the Aztecs came out hot and stayed hot, ultimately handing Palm Springs their first loss of the Season.
On Saturday, the Palm Desert Lady Aztecs hit the gridiron in their round-two playoff game against the Gabrielino Eagles. The Aztecs would go into the fourth quarter down 6-7, but thanks to a huge touchdown from Penelope 'Nelly' Poland late in the fourth, Palm Desert earned the victory and will continue to push deeper into the CIF Southern Section Playoffs.
And the Coachella Valley Firebirds dropped their second game of their back-to-back against Calgary. The momentum from a thrilling overtime win against the Wranglers the night before wouldn't be enough to sweep the series, but the Firebirds are managing to get more points on the board, and are clearly heading in the right direction. As the youngest team in the American Hockey League, the team is jelling nicely and are making the right adjustments in the absence of Ben Myers.
