Palm Springs Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting; Ambulance Later Crashes En Route to Hospital
Palm Springs Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred late Monday morning on Vistachino Drive. Officials say the incident began just before noon when a state parole agent called for assistance, reporting that he was in a physical struggle with a suspect. Moments later, the agent reported an officer-involved shooting.
Responding officers arrived to find the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound. The suspect was placed in an ambulance and transported toward Desert Regional Medical Center, but police say that ambulance was involved in a crash with another vehicle near Sunrise Way and Vistachino.
A second ambulance was dispatched and transported the suspect to the hospital. Palm Springs Police confirmed there were no fatalities, though the suspect, a firefighter, a police officer, and medical personnel sustained minor to moderate injuries in the crash. All were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Police closed East Vistachino between Whitewater Club and North Pharrell Drives as investigators processed the scene. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity, and the investigation remains ongoing.
