Billie Eilish Donates $11.5 Million and Urges Billionaires to ‘Give Their Money Away’
Billie Eilish is using both her voice and her platform to spark change. The Grammy-winning artist announced an $11.5 million donation during the Wall Street Journal Magazine Innovator Awards in New York City — and then used her acceptance speech to call on billionaires to follow her lead.
Before presenting her with the Music Innovator Award, late-night host Stephen Colbert revealed Eilish’s major donation, saying the funds would go toward “organizations, projects and voices dedicated to food equity, client justice, reducing carbon pollution, and combating the climate crisis.”
“On behalf of humans, thank you very much,” Colbert added to applause.
When Eilish took the stage, she delivered a heartfelt message about compassion and responsibility. “We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than kind of ever,” she said. “If you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it.”
Eilish noted there were “a few people in here that have a lot more money than me,” adding with a smile, “If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties.”
Her comments drew widespread praise online for their authenticity and directness — reflecting her ongoing advocacy for climate action and social equity.
