Elite Cosmetology School Partners with Local Districts to Give Students a Head Start
The beauty industry can be both creative and lucrative, and now, a local program is helping high school students get an early start. Elite Cosmetology School in Palm Desert has partnered with Desert Sands Unified School District and Coachella Valley Unified School District to offer students a chance to earn cosmetology training before graduation.
Instructor Dax Hussey says the two-year program helps participants gain valuable hands-on experience and work toward their cosmetology licenses shortly after finishing high school. “It makes me feel really accomplished in the sense that I can help them on their journey to become self-sufficient and financially independent,” Hussey said.
High school senior Sophie, who’s completing the program, says she plans to use her skills to open a salon inspired by her mother. “For me, it’s important that I make my community feel good about themselves,” she shared. “I just like helping people feel good about themselves.”
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, cosmetology is projected to grow faster than average over the next decade, creating strong opportunities for future professionals. Moving forward, Elite plans to expand partnerships with additional school districts to help even more students fast-track their futures and turn their passions into professions.
