Sentencing for Jake Haro, Father Who Admitted to Killing Infant Son, Rescheduled to Afternoon
The sentencing for Jake Haro, the father who pleaded guilty to killing his seven-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro, has been rescheduled for this afternoon at 2 p.m., according to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. The hearing was originally set for 8:30 this morning. A little over two weeks ago, during a felony settlement conference, Haro pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, child endangerment, and filing a false police report. He now faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
The case stems from the disappearance of baby Emmanuel Haro, reported missing by his mother, Rebecca Haro, more than two months ago. One week after the report, both parents were arrested at their home in Cabazon and charged with murder. Rebecca Haro continues to plead not guilty, with her felony settlement conference set for January 21st. A sentencing memorandum from the District Attorney’s Office details Jake Haro’s previous abuse case involving his daughter, Carolina Haro.
In that 2023 case, Carolina suffered multiple rib and skull fractures. Haro pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 180 days in county jail, with a six-year prison term suspended as part of his probation.
Prosecutors are now seeking to have Haro serve the full six-year sentence from that prior case before beginning his 25-to-life term for the murder of Emmanuel.
In the memorandum, Deputy District Attorney Brandon Smith wrote, “If there are lower forms of evil in this world, I am not aware of them.”
