Desert Sands Unified Celebrates Rededication of Oliphant Elementary in Indio

This evening, the Desert Sands Unified School District (DSUSD) is marking a major milestone with the rededication of Oliphant Elementary School in Indio.

The event celebrates the completion of the school’s original campus vision, first set in motion when Oliphant Elementary opened its doors in 2018. At that time, funding limitations prevented the full build-out of the campus. Now, thanks to developer fee funding, the school has added a new classroom wing, bringing it to its intended capacity.

As part of the celebration, the district is also honoring Richard Oliphant, for whom the school is named. Oliphant is being recognized for his decades of public service and his instrumental role in helping secure funding for school construction and improvement projects across DSUSD.

Superintendent Kelly May-Vollmar says the rededication represents more than just a building expansion — it’s a symbol of perseverance and partnership.

“This celebration reflects the vision, dedication, and community spirit that brought this campus to completion,” Vollmar said.

Tonight’s ceremony not only commemorates the school’s growth but also highlights the strong collaboration between the district, community members, and local leaders who made it possible.
