Coachella Valley Honors Heroes: Veterans Day Events, Parade, and NBC Palm Springs Special
Tomorrow marks Veterans Day, a time to honor our military veterans and those currently serving our country. Across the Coachella Valley, several events are planned to pay tribute to their service and sacrifice.
The McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert is getting an early start with its Stars, Stripes, and Songs celebration this evening. Hosted in partnership with the City of Palm Desert, the event begins at 5:30 p.m. and promises a USO-style performance filled with music, memories, and community spirit. Tickets are $30 for the general public and $15 for veterans.
On Veterans Day, the 28th annual Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade steps off at 3:30 p.m. along Palm Canyon Drive and Ramon Road under the theme “Honoring All Who Served.” The parade will feature military units, marching bands, and veterans organizations, and will conclude with a patriotic concert and a fireworks show. The event is organized in collaboration with the City of Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Air Museum, which is bringing a helicopter and military equipment for display.
Here at NBC Palm Springs, we’re proud to sponsor the parade. Our live coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. on NBC Palm Springs and will also be streamed on our website and Facebook page.
Before the parade, NBC Palm Springs will air a special half-hour report at 3 p.m. titled “80 Years Later: The Coachella Valley’s World War II Legacy.” The program features five World War II veterans who call the Coachella Valley home, including Royal Army Service Corps Corporal Mick Dawson, who recalls the day England entered the war and the fear that gripped the nation.
The special explores the region’s historical connection to World War II, including a local training ground that played a key role in preparing troops. It’s a heartfelt tribute to the greatest generation and a reminder of the enduring spirit of those who served.
