ByHeart Recalls All Infant Formula Products Due to Botulism Risk
ByHeart has issued a voluntary recall of its entire line of organic infant formula products nationwide due to potential contamination linked to infant botulism cases.
The recall affects all batches of ByHeart's Whole Nutrition Infant Formula, including both canned products and "Anywhere Packs"—small, sealed pouches designed for portable feeding.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, at least 84 infants across the country have been hospitalized for infant botulism since August 1st. Health experts warn that botulism can potentially cause paralysis in children under one year of age, as their immune systems are still developing and cannot fight off the bacteria's toxins.
The FDA is urging parents and caregivers to immediately stop using any ByHeart infant formula products. Additionally, they recommend closely monitoring any children who have recently consumed the formula, as botulism symptoms can take several weeks to develop after exposure.
Warning signs of infant botulism include:
Constipation
Poor feeding
Loss of head control
Difficulty swallowing
Parents who notice these symptoms should seek medical attention immediately. No deaths have been reported in connection with the current outbreak.
Consumers with questions about the recall can contact ByHeart directly or consult their pediatrician for guidance on alternative feeding options.
