Palm Springs Animal Shelter Hosts Annual ‘Gimme Shelter’ Luncheon to Support Overwhelmed Facilities
The Palm Springs Animal Shelter and Desert Wildlife Center came together this afternoon for their annual Gimme Shelter Luncheon, held at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. The event offered attendees an inside look at the life-saving impact of both organizations while emphasizing the urgent need for continued community support.
The luncheon comes at a critical time for the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, which has been operating far over capacity, particularly with cats. Shelter officials report that they have taken in more than 3,000 animals since the start of the year. Meanwhile, the Desert Wildlife Center — which opened in July — has already treated 160 animals from 47 different species, underscoring the growing demand for wildlife rehabilitation across the Coachella Valley.
During the one-hour program, guests heard updates on ongoing initiatives, rescue success stories, and ways to help sustain operations. Attendees were also invited to make multi-year pledges to help fund future animal care and community outreach efforts.
“The needs are overwhelming, and we’re trying to meet them,” said one shelter representative. “But we can only do that with donor support. Events like this help us educate the community, show our impact, and invite people to become partners in this vital work.”
Both the Palm Springs Animal Shelter and the Desert Wildlife Center stressed that without community donations and volunteers, they could not continue to operate their no-kill facilities — a cornerstone of their mission to protect and rehabilitate animals in need.
