Starbucks Red Cup Day Returns Tomorrow with Free Reusable Cups — and Possible Strikes
Tomorrow marks one of Starbucks’ most anticipated events of the year — Red Cup Day. The annual promotion gives customers a free limited-edition 16-ounce reusable red cup when they order from a list of handcrafted holiday beverages. The offer is available while supplies last at participating Starbucks locations nationwide.
However, this year’s giveaway may face some disruptions. Starbucks Workers United has announced plans for a nationwide strike on Red Cup Day unless a contract agreement is reached. While the union has not confirmed how many stores will be affected, workers in at least 25 cities are expected to participate.
The strike could impact some stores’ ability to distribute the cups, though Starbucks has not issued an official statement about potential shortages. Many fans are hoping the event goes smoothly — and that it doesn’t turn into the frenzy seen during past promotions, such as the viral “bear cup” release that caused lines to wrap around store blocks.
Red Cup Day remains a major holiday tradition for the coffee giant and its fans. Customers often arrive early to collect the festive reusable cups, which have become collector’s items in recent years.
So, before heading to the American Legion Post 519 Telethon tomorrow evening, make time for a morning coffee run — and maybe snag that free red cup, if supplies hold up.
