Dr. Carreón Foundation Partners with Learning in Retirement Palm Desert to Bridge Generations

A local nonprofit long recognized for providing financial assistance for higher education and vocational training to students in the Coachella Valley is broadening its impact to include learners of all ages. The Dr. Carreón Foundation has announced a new partnership with Learning in Retirement Palm Desert, a nonprofit that offers lifelong educational opportunities for older adults passionate about continued learning.

The collaboration aims to create meaningful connections between students pursuing higher education and retirees eager to stay intellectually engaged. Through this partnership, both organizations hope to strengthen community ties and inspire mentorship across generations.

The Dr. Carreón Foundation has helped more than 1,000 local students with financial support for college tuition and career development. Foundation leaders say their mission goes beyond scholarships — it’s about guiding students through the entire educational journey. “Our main goal isn’t just to give scholarships,” stated Executive Director Ricardo Loretta. “It’s to help students complete their education so they can build good careers, earn stable incomes, and lead productive lives.”

Members of Learning in Retirement say they’ve seen firsthand the value of the foundation’s work. “These students are fantastic people who really need a leg up financially,” said Board Member Marc Rosen for Learning in Retirment, and who has interviewed Dr. Carreón Foundation scholarship applicants.

Learning in Retirement offers accessible and engaging courses on topics like language, medicine, and finance — with a strong focus on personal growth and community involvement.
