House Set to Vote on Releasing Jeffrey Epstein Investigation Files

The House of Representatives is expected to vote Tuesday afternoon on legislation compelling the Justice Department to release its files on deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following months of resistance from congressional leadership and the White House.

President Donald Trump reversed his position on the measure, now urging Republicans to support the bill after previously calling it unnecessary due to ongoing investigations. "They can do whatever they want. We'll give them everything," Trump told reporters, adding he would sign the legislation if it reaches his desk.

The shift comes as House lawmakers secured nearly enough Republican votes to pass the measure even without presidential support. Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California said nearly 100 Republicans had committed to voting for the bill despite initial opposition from Trump.

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who spearheaded the effort, expressed concern that new DOJ investigations ordered by President Trump could be used as justification to withhold information. "I believe they may be trying to use those investigations as a predicate for not releasing the files," Massie said.

Trump, who socialized with Epstein in the 1980s and 1990s before severing ties, has not been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein's crimes. Epstein died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Survivors of Epstein's abuse gathered at the Capitol to advocate for the files' release. "Knowing how popular this is with the American people, that a tremendous amount of pressure placed on the government means things happen," said Annie Farmer, an Epstein survivor.
