Coachella Valley Rescue Mission Issues Urgent Call for Thanksgiving Food Donations
The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is sounding an urgent alarm as Thanksgiving approaches, reporting that its pantry is at one of the lowest levels it has ever seen. Mission leaders say food donations have dropped steeply in recent months, even as the number of people seeking assistance continues to climb heading into the fall and winter seasons.
CVRM expects to serve more than 39,000 meals this Thanksgiving and will distribute over 700 holiday food boxes to families throughout the Coachella Valley. A free community Thanksgiving dinner will be held next Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the mission’s campus on Van Buren Street in Indio.
The organization is asking for donations of turkeys or plant-based alternatives, stuffing, potatoes, canned vegetables, eggs, pies, and other holiday staples. Monetary contributions can also be made online at CVRM.org to help support the increased demand.
