Beaumont Principal Joel Hudec Surprised With $25,000 Milken Educator Award

A Beaumont school leader received one of the nation’s highest honors in education today. Joel Hudec, principal of Brookside Elementary School, was awarded the $25,000 Milken Educator Award, a distinction often referred to as the “Oscars of Teaching.”

The presentation came during what staff and students believed was a routine recognition event celebrating the school’s accomplishments. Administrators said the campus was being honored for outstanding work, which was true—but the real surprise arrived when representatives revealed that Hudec himself had been selected as this year’s award recipient.

The Milken Educator Award highlights educators who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and dedication to improving student outcomes. Recipients are welcomed into a national network of more than 3,000 distinguished educators who collaborate on best practices and educational excellence.

Hudec called the moment humbling, emphasizing that the achievements at Brookside Elementary are shared by committed teachers, hardworking students, and a supportive Beaumont Unified School District community. Students and staff filled the room with applause as the principal accepted the award.

With this honor, Hudec joins a select group of educators recognized not only for their accomplishments but also for their ongoing impact in shaping the future of learning.
