Vance Urges Patience on the Economy as White House Shifts Message Ahead of Midterms
Vice President JD Vance is acknowledging rising frustration among Americans over the cost of living, urging the country to be patient as the administration works to improve the economy. His comments mark a noticeable shift from President Donald Trump’s recent insistence that the economy is strong and affordability concerns are exaggerated.
During remarks at a Breitbart News event, Vance said the administration understands voters’ concerns, especially when it comes to everyday necessities like groceries. He highlighted rising prices, specifically pointing to eggs as an example of why many families continue to struggle. While egg prices have fallen from their peak levels, Vance noted that even modest decreases don’t erase the financial strain for most households.
Vance attributed part of the nation’s economic challenges to policies under former President Joe Biden and the recent record-long government shutdown, which he says slowed momentum in key sectors. Despite these headwinds, he pointed to a stronger-than-expected September jobs report as evidence that the administration's economic policies are beginning to show results.
His tone contrasts sharply with President Trump’s recent messaging. Trump has labeled affordability concerns a political tactic, even calling them a “con job,” and continues to tout stock market gains and declining gas prices. Economists, however, have raised concerns about ongoing price increases for commodities like beef and coffee, partially tied to tariffs.
The administration is reportedly weighing additional measures aimed at lowering costs for Americans, including potential tariff rollbacks and even exploring $2,000 relief checks next year. Trump aides are also preparing a new health care proposal as subsidies under the Affordable Care Act are set to expire.
Still, Vance emphasized that significant progress will take time, asking Americans for patience as the administration continues its economic strategy.
