OpenAI Launches New ChatGPT Tool Designed Specifically for K–12 Teachers

OpenAI is expanding its presence in the classroom with a new version of ChatGPT designed specifically for teachers. The company is offering the tool, called ChatGPT for Teachers, free to verified K–12 educators through June 2027 as part of a long-term effort to make artificial intelligence more accessible and useful in schools.

After the free period ends, OpenAI says it intends to keep the cost as close to free as possible to ensure that educators can continue using the platform without financial barriers. The tool provides teachers with a secure workspace where they can adapt lesson materials, create teaching resources, and customize content for different grade levels and learning styles.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT for Teachers is meant to enhance classroom workflows rather than replace them. It helps educators streamline prep time, collaborate with colleagues, and feel more confident incorporating AI responsibly into their routines. The company notes that many teachers are already using AI informally, and this specialized version is designed to provide a safer and more structured option.

With three in five teachers already using some form of artificial intelligence tool, OpenAI says this platform builds on what educators are doing while giving them more control and better privacy protections.
