Guide Dogs of the Desert Launches 30,000 Giving Tuesday Campaign for New X-Ray Machine
For decades, Guide Dogs of the Desert has been transforming lives by pairing individuals who are visually impaired with highly trained and loyal guide dogs. Now, the organization is turning to the community for support. Their goal this Giving Tuesday is to raise 30,000 for a new digital X-ray machine at their on-site veterinary hospital.
The current machine recently broke down, forcing the nonprofit to outsource X-rays at significant cost. Leaders say those expenses add up to tens of thousands of dollars every year — money that could instead go toward training, medical care, and expanding services for people in need.
Bringing X-rays back in-house will allow the veterinary team to diagnose issues faster, treat dogs more efficiently, and ensure every guide dog entering the program is in the best possible health.
“We want to make sure that the dogs placed with individuals who are visually impaired are good, healthy, strong dogs,” a spokesperson said. “Guide dogs work long hours in the community, and they need to be in the absolute best health possible.”
Community members can help by donating at guidedogsofthedesert.org and by sharing the nonprofit’s Giving Tuesday campaign online. Every contribution helps ensure that more people can receive the life-changing support these remarkable dogs provide.
