Early Morning Crash Shuts Down Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs
An early morning crash shut down a major stretch of Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs, disrupting the morning commute and forcing drivers onto alternate routes. The closure began after a vehicle slammed into an electrical pole around 2 a.m., knocking it to the ground and prompting crews to immediately respond to the scene.
Officers investigating the crash say it is still unclear whether anyone was injured or how many people were inside the vehicle at the time of impact. The downed pole created a significant hazard, leaving workers no choice but to temporarily close the roadway between Varner Road and Paul Road.
Repair crews are replacing the damaged pole and clearing debris, and officials expect Palm Drive to remain closed until approximately 7 a.m. All traffic in the area is being detoured onto Varner Road while the work continues.
Drivers heading out early are encouraged to allow for additional travel time and use caution as crews finish their repairs. More updates will be provided as information becomes available.
