House Panel Investigates Reports of Antisemitism in Three Public School Districts

The Trump administration is taking another step toward addressing what it calls a growing failure to protect Jewish students on public school campuses. A House panel on Monday opened a formal investigation into three major school districts across the country, citing reports of antisemitic incidents and concerns about student safety.

The districts under review are Berkeley Unified School District in California, Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia, and the School District of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. According to the committee, each district has faced multiple allegations of anti-Jewish actions over the past several years, prompting federal lawmakers to intervene.

Letters were sent to all three districts requesting detailed documentation about reported incidents, how those cases were handled, and whether the districts have taken steps to ensure Jewish students are protected from harassment or discrimination. The committee said the review will determine whether the districts are complying with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in federally funded programs.

The investigation reflects heightened national scrutiny of antisemitism in K-12 and higher education settings. Lawmakers say they want to know whether school leaders responded appropriately to complaints, and whether policies meant to safeguard students are being enforced consistently.

The districts have not yet issued formal public responses to the committee’s letters, but the panel stated it expects full cooperation as it examines the allegations.
