Campbell’s Executive Accused of Insulting Customers, Calling Products “Food for Poor People”

A lawsuit filed last week accuses a senior executive at Campbell’s Company of making offensive remarks about the company’s own products and customers. According to the complaint, during a November meeting about salary, the executive allegedly described Campbell’s soup and other foods as “highly processed food for poor people.” The meeting was reportedly recorded by the former cybersecurity analyst, Robert Garza, who filed the suit.

Garza’s lawsuit also alleges the executive made racist comments about Indian workers. Garza says he was fired in January after reporting the remarks to his manager.

In response, Campbell’s Company released a statement calling the alleged language “unacceptable,” asserting that it does not reflect the company’s values. The company says the executive named in the complaint — Martin Bally — is currently on temporary leave while the firm conducts an internal investigation.

The lawsuit has reignited discussion about corporate responsibility, workplace culture, and respect for consumers — especially when comments target economically vulnerable customers. As the investigation unfolds, questions remain about how the company will address the allegations and whether any actions will be taken beyond placing the executive on leave.
