CHP Launches Maximum Enforcement for Holiday Travel Safety
Holiday travel is kicking into high gear, and the California Highway Patrol is stepping up enforcement to keep drivers safe. CHP’s maximum enforcement period begins tonight at 6 p.m. and continues through Sunday night — covering what AAA says will be the busiest travel days on California roads.
Every officer available will be on active patrol throughout the long holiday weekend. The goal is to prevent collisions, get impaired drivers off the road, and make sure families reach their destinations safely.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, especially if they intend to drink or use anything that could impair their ability to drive. CHP is urging travelers to designate a sober driver or arrange a ride share to avoid dangerous situations.
The warning comes as CHP reports more than 30 people were killed in crashes during last year’s Thanksgiving enforcement period across the state. Officers say buckling up remains one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent injuries and save lives.
Whether heading across town or across the state, officials want drivers to pack patience, stay alert, and make smart choices on the road this holiday weekend.
