Holiday Travel Rush Hits Palm Springs as Millions Head Out for Thanksgiving

Millions of Americans are hitting the road and taking to the skies tonight as they head toward their Thanksgiving destinations — and Palm Springs is no exception. Thousands of travelers are moving through Palm Springs International Airport, making it one of the busiest travel days of the year.

National travel demand is now at a 15-year high, according to federal officials. AAA estimates that about 58 million people will be driving through the end of this week, contributing to major congestion on Southern California freeways. Transportation experts say the holiday rush is peaking along heavily traveled routes, including Interstate 10 and the 60 Freeway.

Despite tonight’s traffic crunch, AAA notes that Thanksgiving Day itself is expected to be one of the best times to travel, with lighter delays both on the roads and at airports.

The Auto Club is preparing for nearly 150,000 emergency roadside service calls statewide over the holiday period. They’re urging drivers to make sure vehicles are road-ready — checking tires, batteries, wipers, and ensuring a full tank before heading out.

As conditions remain busy through the night, officials are asking travelers to plan ahead, monitor road and weather updates, and pack extra patience for the journey ahead.
