Patsi Helps Fund New Van for Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City

A year-long mission to expand opportunities for youth in the West End of the Coachella Valley has reached a milestone. Local philanthropist Patsi Kocan and her nonprofit, supported by generous community donors, have raised nearly $50,000 to purchase a brand-new van for the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City.

The club’s transportation program is essential for students who rely on a safe ride from school to after-school programs. For many families, it is the only way their children can attend. Students say the service not only helps them academically but also strengthens friendships and confidence.

One student, Kevin, a 12th grader at James Workman Middle School, says the van helps his parents who are unable to drive him back and forth each day. Vanessa Garcia, a club member who previously had to stop participating when she switched to a school without van access, says she is excited to return thanks to the expanded service.

The new van will also support longer-distance field trips, especially during the summer months, creating more learning and recreational opportunities for kids and staff. Boys and Girls Club leadership says the added vehicle is key to reaching more youth across the region.

Patsi and supporters raised funds through pledges and multiple community bingo events — each dollar helping turn the goal into reality. Club officials plan to add decals to the van recognizing the organizations and individuals who made the purchase possible.

The student response has already made it clear: a simple ride can make a life-changing difference.
