Gas Prices Rise Year-Over-Year, But Relief May Be Coming

Gas prices have now risen year-over-year for eight straight days, marking a notable turnaround from earlier this year when drivers were paying more than 30 cents less per gallon compared to 2024.
However, industry analysts say lower prices could be just around the corner. As of Tuesday, the national average for regular gas was about $3.05 per gallon — just slightly below the price at this time last year.
Looking ahead to the holidays, GasBuddy projects the national average could fall to around $3.02 by Thanksgiving. If that prediction holds, it would tie the lowest Thanksgiving price since 2020, offering some relief for the millions of travelers expected to hit the road.
