U.S. Home-Price Growth Slows to Softest Pace Since 2023 Even as Home Sales Rise

U.S. home-price growth eased in September, with the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller National Home Price Index rising 1.3 percent — slightly lower than August’s 1.4 percent increase and marking the slowest monthly gain since 2023.
At the same time, pending home sales across the country rose nearly 2 percent in October from the prior month. The increase lifts the pending-sales index to its highest level in a year, according to the National Association of Realtors.
Home-buying activity rose in most regions except the West, suggesting that lower mortgage rates are motivating many buyers who had previously sat on the sidelines. For those watching the real estate market — whether buyers or sellers — the mixed signals reflect an environment where affordability, interest rates, and regional variations are playing a bigger role than ever.
