Coachella Valley Rescue Mission Serves 3,000 Thanksgiving Meals to Those in Need
The spirit of Thanksgiving was on full display in Indio as the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission wrapped up day two of its annual holiday food drive. From 2 to 6 p.m., volunteers and staff members served warm meals to anyone in need, ensuring that the holiday season began with comfort and community.
On the menu were Thanksgiving favorites — turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and green bean casserole — all prepared with care. But the goal extended far beyond food. Staff say the event is meant to offer dignity, connection, and hope.
For many who lined up, the meal represented more than nourishment. It was a reminder that they are valued and supported. One participant shared how important it was to be seen as more than a label, saying the event helped them feel human, cared for, and loved during a challenging period. They added that the chance to spend the holiday gathered with others brings them closer to reclaiming their place in society.
Over the past two days, the Rescue Mission prepared 3,000 meals — a major undertaking powered by community generosity, donations, and volunteers committed to making sure no one goes without.
As the holiday season continues, the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission remains a crucial resource for those facing hunger and homelessness, reminding the valley that Thanksgiving is truly about giving back.
