Louvre Museum to Increase Ticket Fees 45% for Non-European Visitors Starting January 2026
The world-famous Louvre Museum in Paris will raise its entry fee by 45 percent for visitors from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) starting January 14, 2026.
Under the new pricing, non-European tourists will pay €32 (about US$37) for a general admission ticket, up from the current €22.
The museum’s administration said the hike aims to generate an additional €15 million to €20 million annually. The extra funds will go toward major structural renovations and a security overhaul — measures deemed urgent after a high-profile daylight theft of priceless jewelry exposed serious vulnerabilities.
While the increased rate will apply to non-EEA visitors, residents of European Union countries — as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, which are part of the EEA — will continue paying the original rate or qualify for free entry under existing programs for residents under 26, certain professionals or students, and some other categories.
The fee increase is part of a broader effort to modernize the museum under the “Louvre New Renaissance” plan — a multi-year vision to upgrade the facility, enhance visitor flow, and improve security, while preserving the museum’s invaluable collections.
