Married Couple Shot and Killed in Simi Valley Home
A Simi Valley neighborhood is in shock after a married couple in their 60s was shot inside their home Sunday afternoon and later died from their injuries. Police say the attack does not appear to be random, and investigators are now looking closely at the victims’ stepson as a possible suspect.
Officers were called to the Wood Ranch community just after noon following reports of gunfire at a home on Hawks Bill Place. When police arrived, they found the couple suffering from critical gunshot wounds inside the garage. Both were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead later Sunday evening.
The victims have been identified as Dr. Eric Cordes, a longtime radiologist, and his wife Vicki. Adventist Health Simi Valley described Dr. Cordes as a respected medical professional who served the community for decades.
Witnesses reported seeing a man walk up the home’s driveway and into the garage before opening fire. Police believe the shooter may have then traveled more than 70 miles to Chino, where officers discovered a burning vehicle and a deceased person in Ayala Park. Authorities are working to determine whether that incident is connected to the Simi Valley shooting.
Residents were asked to avoid both crime scenes as investigators worked into the night. Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
This story remains under investigation as detectives pursue leads and await confirmation regarding the identity of the possible suspect.
