Palm Desert Breaks Ground on Major 240-Unit Affordable Housing Project

Palm Desert took a major step toward expanding affordable housing today as state and local leaders gathered for the groundbreaking of a large residential development in the Genesis Point area. The project — called Palm Villas at Millennium — is expected to become one of the region’s largest affordable housing communities.

Developed in two phases across more than 10 acres, the project will ultimately deliver over 240 housing units for residents in Palm Desert and the wider Coachella Valley.

The first phase includes 120 residential units, a manager’s apartment, five three-story buildings, and a community building. A second phase will add 119 additional units once underway.

“This project brings much-needed affordable housing to the community, to the city of Palm Desert, for all of the Coachella Valley,” said Dan Horn, who is helping lead the development. “It’s addressing that critical housing gap across California.”

Several key officials attended the ceremony, including California Deputy State Treasurer Patrick Henning, Assemblymember Greg Wallis, Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, and representatives from the Riverside County Housing Authority and Palm Desert City Council.

Construction has already begun, and phase one is expected to be completed by June 2027.
