CSUSB Palm Desert Celebrates Major Milestone as Student Success Center Reaches Topping-Off Phase

The Cal State San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus marked a major milestone today by celebrating the topping-off of its new Student Success Center. The final steel beam was lifted into place, bringing the university one step closer to opening its first state-funded facility and its first new building on the Palm Desert Campus in 16 years.

University leaders, local officials, students, alumni, and community members gathered for the ceremony, each signing the beam before it was raised—symbolizing the Coachella Valley’s continued commitment to expanding access to higher education.

The new 23,700-square-foot center is designed to evolve with the changing needs of students. Once completed in 2027, the building will consolidate key resources such as academic advising, career development, and student support services. It will serve up to 4,000 students, significantly expanding the campus’s ability to support its growing population.

The project is backed in part by a $79 million state allocation approved in 2022. Campus leaders say the new facility will help strengthen academic pathways and improve access to bachelor’s and graduate programs for students across the region.
