86-Year-Old Man Killed in Cathedral City Crash on Date Palm Drive

A traffic alert in Cathedral City this evening as police investigate a deadly two-vehicle crash that left an 86-year-old man dead. The collision happened on Date Palm Drive near Techeva Drive Wednesday afternoon.

Cathedral City Police say officers arrived shortly before 4:30 p.m. to find both vehicles with significant damage. The drivers of each car were rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Overnight, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 86-year-old Raymond Johnson of Cathedral City died from his injuries. The other driver’s condition has not been released.

Investigators say several people stopped to try to help after the crash, but so far, police have not identified any witnesses who actually saw the collision happen. Officers are working to determine what led to the crash and whether speed or impairment were contributing factors.
