Friends of the Children Coachella Valley Honored with Social Impact Award and Donation
NBC Palm Springs has partnered with the Rapp Foundation and Honda at Toyota of the Desert to recognize outstanding community service and support local nonprofits making a lasting impact in the Coachella Valley.
Our Digital Reporter, Thalia Hayden, joined the Rapp Foundation for a surprise presentation honoring Friends of the Children Coachella Valley and dedicated volunteer Randy Florence. The organization builds long-term support systems for local children by pairing them with paid, professional mentors who commit to guiding them for 12 years, no matter what.
Anthony Caridi from Honda and Toyota of the Desert personally delivered the big news. The organization was awarded the Social Impact Award along with a $500 donation, and Florence received $500 for his ongoing volunteer work. Florence immediately redirected his award back to the organization, doubling the nonprofit’s gift to $1,000.
“We love the work you do,” Caridi said, praising the commitment mentors make to help children strengthen their futures. “It’s just really fantastic that the kids have that opportunity.”
Florence shared why he is so invested in supporting the mission.
“We have the opportunity to change generations of families in this town,” he said. “And I’m thrilled to be a part of it. Thank you so much for this.”
Friends of the Children Coachella Valley says the recognition will help them continue providing essential guidance and positive role models to more youth across the region.
