Ironman 70.3 La Quinta Takes Place Sunday with Modified Route, Road Closures Expected

The Ironman 70.3 La Quinta triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, December 8, starting at approximately 7 a.m. at Lake Cahuilla. Participants should expect a series of cannon blasts near the starting point lasting about 10 minutes to mark the race's beginning.

This year's race features a modified route contained entirely south of Avenue 52 within La Quinta city limits. The course includes a swim at Lake Cahuilla, a bike route that incorporates a lap around the Thermal Raceway, and a run through Silver Rock Golf Course.

Traffic and Road Closures

Road closures will begin early Sunday morning, with most race activity expected to conclude between 1 and 2 p.m. Officials advise that "metered crossings" may allow vehicle passage during gaps in the race, but significant delays are likely when large groups of athletes pass through.

Twenty-four residential communities will experience traffic impacts, including PGA West, Trilogy, Madison Club, Griffin Ranch, and Hideaway, among others. The full list includes Alta Verde Coral Mountain, Andalusia Cantera at Coral Mountain, Capistrano, Carmela, Codorniz, Estates at La Quinta, Lions Gate, Palo Verde, PGA West (including Monterra and Norman subdivisions), Piazza Serena, Puerta Azul, Quarry, Rancho Santana, Santa Rosa Trails, Santerra, Stone Creek/Coral Mountain Estates, Village at the Palms, and Villaggio.
