Kendrick Lamar and ‘South Park’ Creators Delay Upcoming Comedy Film
Fans waiting for Kendrick Lamar’s next big project will have to hold on a little longer. The rapper’s upcoming movie with “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone has been delayed again, with a new release date still unclear.
Originally pushed from July 2025 to March 2026 due to Lamar’s touring commitments and the filmmakers’ work schedule, reports now suggest the film will not be ready for that 2026 date either. Industry sources say Lamar may head back on tour, causing further delays.
The movie, internally titled Whitney Springs, is described as a live-action, music-infused comedy addressing racism through satire. It follows a young Black man who takes a job performing as a slave at a popular plantation attraction and quickly becomes uncomfortable with the experience.
The project seems to align closely with the creative styles of its collaborators. Lamar has long incorporated themes of racial justice into his art, including his 2025 Super Bowl Halftime performance that received significant national attention. Parker and Stone, known for pushing boundaries, have used recent episodes of “South Park” to critique the current administration.
The screenplay was reportedly written by Vernon Chatman, known for The Chris Rock Show and The Shivering Truth. Production is being handled by Lamar and Dave Free’s company PGLang, alongside Parker and Stone through Park County.
While the movie’s official title and full details remain under wraps, early reactions from studio executives have been enthusiastic. Paramount’s former co-CEO previously called the script “one of the funniest and most original” he had seen.
More information is expected as the production timeline becomes clearer.
