Oklahoma Mom Starts Autism Christmas Party to Support Children and Families

A mother in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is creating a new sense of holiday joy and community after her young son was diagnosed with autism. When doctors confirmed that five-year-old Willie was on the spectrum, Angel Horn says everything changed — but instead of fear, she found purpose.

Horn noticed early on that her son had challenges different from her three older children. Hearing the official diagnosis was emotional, but she says it motivated her to learn, connect and advocate.

“I wiped my tears, and before I left that door, I said, ‘I’m ready for the journey,’” Horn shared. “Just because it’s a diagnosis doesn’t mean he will lack in any way.”

That journey led her to launch Piece by Peace Child Development Research Services, a group designed to help families navigate autism resources and reduce isolation. Horn has already connected with 30 local families, offering support and encouragement through shared experience.

This Christmas, she’s expanding that mission with a new celebration: an Autism Christmas Party. A toy drive is underway to help make the event special for children who don’t always receive invitations to social gatherings.

“Kids on the spectrum don’t get included in a lot of activities,” Horn said. “We want to bring them in, celebrate them, and let them be exactly who they are without judgment.”

Ideal donations include sensory-friendly toys like pop-its, fidgets, slime and squishies, but Horn says any contribution helps ensure these kids have a joyful holiday.

Her goal is simple: community, inclusion and love.

“I never want another mom to feel alone,” Horn said. “I get it — and we’re in this together.”
