20-Year-Old Skateboarder Killed in Crash Near Desert Hot Springs Identified

Authorities have identified the skateboarder who was hit and killed by a vehicle near Desert Hot Springs late last week.

The California Highway Patrol says 20-year-old Juan Mejia Calvillo Jr. was struck around 6:20 p.m. on Dec. 5 on Mountain View Road.

Investigators report a white Chevy Camaro was traveling southbound when the driver illegally passed a slower-moving vehicle over double yellow lines, striking Mejia Calvillo. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP says the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests have been announced at this time.
