Bob Mackie Honored with Margaret O’Brien Legend Award and Palm Springs Proclamation

Nine-time Emmy winner, Tony Award recipient, and multi-Oscar-nominated designer Bob Mackie was celebrated in Palm Springs last night, receiving the fifth annual Margaret O’Brien Legend Award. The event took place at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, where fans and fashion lovers gathered to honor the man behind some of Hollywood’s most iconic looks.

The City of Palm Springs also surprised Mackie with an official proclamation, marking the day in his honor and recognizing his extraordinary contributions to entertainment and design.

Following a screening of the Oscar-nominated film Funny Ladies, starring Barbra Streisand, Mackie took part in a Q&A moderated by supermodel and MS survivor Cameron Parker. NBC Palm Springs’ Manny the Movie Guy sat down with Mackie to reflect on his career. When asked what stands out most after decades of groundbreaking work, Mackie said what he cherished was the weekly creativity in television, especially working alongside comedy legend Carol Burnett.

Attendees celebrated not only a career filled with unforgettable costumes but also a storyteller who helped define eras of performance and glamour through design. The evening recognized a true icon whose influence continues to shape entertainment and inspire new generations of artists.
