Clinics Urge Residents to Enroll in Medi-Cal Before December 31 Deadline
With the new year fast approaching, health leaders say many families could begin 2026 without coverage if they miss the upcoming deadline to enroll in Medi-Cal. Enrollment numbers have recently declined, but community clinics like innercare are stepping in to ensure residents understand the importance of maintaining their benefits.
Medi-Cal renewals are now required every six months, and applicants must provide more detailed information when signing up or updating their coverage. Clinic specialists say this change has led to confusion, causing some to delay applying or renewing out of fear or misinformation.
Health navigators at innercare are encouraging anyone currently enrolled to double-check that their information is up to date — and anyone who is unsure of their eligibility to reach out for guidance. Staff emphasize that applying for Medi-Cal does not count as a public charge and will not affect immigration proceedings.
The application requirements are minimal, and assistance is available for residents who need help with paperwork or questions about the program. Clinics say demand last year was much higher and hope more community members will take advantage of support services before deadlines pass.
Those who enroll before December 31 will be covered at the start of the new year.
