Desert Hot Springs Resident Identified in Fatal Skateboard Collision

DESERT HOT SPRINGS (CNS) - A 20-year-old man riding a skateboard in
Desert Hot Springs, who was struck and killed by a vehicle, was identified today, as authorities continued
their investigation.
Juan Mejia Calvillo Jr. of Desert Hot Springs was fatally struck
shortly before 6:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, on Mountain View Road near Brunner Lane,
according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said a white Chevorlet Camaro traveling southbound on
Mountain View Road, north of Brunner Lane, at an unconfirmed speed unsafely
passed a slower-moving vehicle against solid double yellow lines when it hit
the skateboarder, who was riding in a seated position and heading downhill in
the roadway.
The Chevrolet sustained front-end damage, and Calvillo was pronounced
dead at the scene, the CHP said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with
authorities, according to the agency.
