White House to Announce $12 Billion Farm Aid Package
Financial relief for U.S. farmers is expected to be announced later today.
President Donald Trump is set to unveil a $12 billion farm aid package during a White House roundtable this afternoon, according to administration officials. The funding is aimed at helping farmers facing ongoing economic challenges.
A White House official says most of the aid will be directed to crop farmers through one-time payments under the Farmer Bridge Assistance Program. An additional $1 billion will be allocated to farmers whose crops are not covered under the main assistance program.
The Secretaries of Agriculture and the Treasury are expected to attend the roundtable, along with farmers representing a wide range of agricultural sectors.
Farmers in attendance will include those involved in corn, cotton, soybeans, rice, cattle, wheat, and potato production. The administration says the program is intended to provide short-term financial stability while longer-term solutions for the agricultural economy are explored.
More details on how and when payments will be distributed are expected following the announcement.
