1 Dead, 1 Critical After Dorm Shooting at Kentucky State University — Campus on Lockdown

A tragic shooting at Kentucky State University left one person dead and another in critical condition on Tuesday, campus officials and police said. The incident occurred around 3:35 p.m. at Young Hall, a dorm on the university’s campus in Frankfort — just as students were preparing for final exams before winter break.
Law enforcement responded quickly, placing the campus on lockdown and taking the suspect into custody. Authorities say the area has been secured, and an ongoing investigation is underway.
Kentucky State, a historically Black university founded in 1886, serves over 2,200 students along with hundreds of faculty and staff.
With the campus community stunned, state and university officials have urged calm and prayer. In a statement, the governor called for solidarity and support for those affected.
This tragic event comes just weeks after two other historically Black colleges experienced gun violence. Concern about campus safety has been rising nationwide as schools head into the holiday season.
The university has said it is still collecting complete and verified information. As the investigation continues, prayers and support are being offered to victims and their families — and questions remain as lawmakers, school leaders and safety advocates call for renewed focus on preventing campus violence.
