Palm Springs Fire Department to Host Toy Drive for Local Youth
With just weeks until Christmas Day, the Palm Springs Fire Department will collect new toys on Wednesday for children served by the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Springs.
Firefighters and NBC Palm Springs staff will accept donations from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Fire Station 2, located at 300 North El Cielo Road near the main entrance to Palm Springs International Airport. The station is offering drive-through drop-off for convenience.
The department is seeking new toys for younger children and gift cards for teenagers. All donations will be delivered directly to the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Springs.
Fire Chief Paul Alvarado said the annual event allows his department to engage with the community outside emergency situations.
"Often we're out there during emergency times and sometimes some of the toughest days in people's lives, so it's really a great opportunity for us to be out there during a great time," Alvarado said. "No one's having an emergency and we're there just to spend time with our community and really put some smiles on the faces of the kids here in Palm Springs."
We here at NBC Palm Springs are proud to take part, and we’ll be out there live throughout the day, so stay tuned for that. Thank you from the Palm Springs Fire Department, the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Springs, and NBC Palm Springs.
