Moulin Rouge Star Arianna Rosario Brings Satine To Life At The McCallum Theatre As National Tour Wows Sold-Out Crowds

The national tour of Moulin Rouge! The Musical has lit up the McCallum Theatre this week, and star Arianna Rosario — who plays the iconic role of Satine — joined us in studio to talk about the experience of performing for Coachella Valley audiences.

Rosario says performing in Moulin Rouge has been an incredible experience, with audiences responding enthusiastically to the show’s energy and spectacle. From her dramatic entrance on a swing to donning glamorous costumes and portraying Satine’s emotional depth, Rosario says every night feels like a dream role.

The production features more than 70 musical moments, with everything from full songs to dynamic mashups and musical cues. Rosario says music lovers will enjoy hearing subtle nods to familiar tunes woven throughout the score.

One of her favorite scenes is the montage that transitions from the chandelier sequence into “Roxanne,” a stunning visual and musical highlight that she sometimes gets to witness from the wings.

Having toured for two years, Rosario describes touring life as a blend of consistency and adventure. With a company of more than 70 cast and crew members, the show becomes a close-knit community on the road. She loves exploring local restaurants in each stop, saying food helps her connect with each city’s personality.

Originally from New Jersey, Rosario grew up immersed in the arts, attending Broadway shows and performances in New York City. Though she excelled in math and science, she pursued dance, which led her into musical theater. Her career took off with West Side Story, and she has since built a rich resume in stage and screen before stepping into the role of Satine full-time.
