Motorcyclist Dies in Collision with Big Rig in Indio

A 33-year-old man died early Friday morning following a collision with a big rig truck on Monroe Street south of Interstate 10, according to the Indio Police Department.
The crash occurred on Thursday at approximately 11:13 p.m. when the motorcycle and commercial truck collided on Monroe Street. Officers arriving at the scene found the motorcyclist in the roadway with significant injuries.
The man was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, where he succumbed to his injuries in the early morning hours of Friday.
The driver of the big rig, an unidentified man, was not injured in the collision. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
The IPD Traffic Division has assumed the investigation into the crash. Authorities temporarily closed Monroe Street between Oleander Avenue and Interstate 10 for approximately three and a half hours, reopening the roadway at 2:54 a.m.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Police have not determined whether impairment played a role in the crash.
