Olympians and Top Riders Compete at Desert International Horse Park Holiday Show Series
The Desert International Horse Park has been welcoming some of the world’s most accomplished equestrians during its Desert Holiday Horse Show Series, one of the busiest and most prestigious stretches of the year for the venue.
The series began December 3 and wraps up December 14, drawing approximately 20 of the top 50 riders in the world. Among them are U.S. Olympians McLain Ward, Laura Kraut, and Jessica Springsteen, all competing head-to-head in high-level show jumping events.
Last week, the competition spotlighted Major League Showjumping, featuring a total purse of $750,000. The excitement continues tomorrow with the closing Grand Prix, offering a $340,000 prize and serving as the finale of the holiday series.
Organizers say these two weeks mark the most active period of the year at the horse park, with around 1,000 horses on the property. Behind the elite competition is a lifelong journey for many riders, who often begin at pony levels at a young age and spend years training to reach this caliber of sport. Success at the top level requires not only dedication and skill, but also the right partnership between rider and horse.
The Desert International Horse Park emphasizes accessibility for the community, offering free spectator admission throughout the series. Visitors are welcome to watch world-class competition up close and experience the excitement of international equestrian sport in the Coachella Valley.
