Rob Reiner and Wife Found Dead in Brentwood Home; Son Arrested For Murder

Update: Los Angeles Chief of Police confirms that Nick Reiner has been booked on suspicion of murder in connection to couples death.

Actor and acclaimed film director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead with stab wounds inside their Brentwood home Sunday afternoon, authorities confirmed. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested hours later and booked on suspicion of murder.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to a medical aid call at a residence in the 200 block of Chadbourne Avenue, between Sunset and San Vicente boulevards, around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Upon entering the home, first responders discovered two bodies.

The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at approximately 4:20 p.m. and identified the victims as Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68. Both had suffered stab wounds. The LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division is investigating the deaths as homicides.

According to jail records, Nick Reiner was arrested at 9:15 p.m. Sunday. He remains in custody at the Los Angeles County jail on $4 million bail. Los Angeles Chief of Police Jim McDonnell confirmed the arrest was in connection with Rob and Michele’s death later Monday morning during a press conference. 

Rob Reiner's career in Hollywood spanned more than five decades. He gained national prominence as Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the CBS sitcom All in the Family before transitioning to directing. His directorial credits include Stand By Me, This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men.

The director had been scheduled to appear at the Palm Springs Speaks series on Tuesday evening at The Plaza Theatre. Palm Springs Speaks and the Friends of the Palm Springs Library announced the event's cancellation on Monday, stating their hearts go out to the family and offering full refunds to ticket holders.

The investigation remains ongoing.
