Coachella Valley Rescue Mission Asks For Community Support Ahead of Toy Giveaway
The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is planning to hold its annual toy giveaway this week, and is letting residents know it is not too late to donate to it.
The annual toy giveaway is slated for this Thursday, December 18, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at its facility in Indio. Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet children at the giveaway, and volunteers will distribute stuffed animals. Children must be present to receive toys.
The organization expects to distribute approximately 15,000 toys to an estimated 5,000 children during the four-hour event. The mission is currently accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys for children ranging from infants to teenagers.
Requested items include dolls, books, games, skateboards, sports equipment, balls, action figures, Legos, cars, trucks, and Barbies.
Executive Director Amand Galindo said community members and organizations often organize toy drives at offices, churches, neighborhoods, or clubs to support the event, creating drop-off spots all over the valley. Galindo also noted that donations can be delivered to the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission directly at 47470 Van Buren Street in Indio.
Those interested in volunteering or organizing a collection drive can contact Kristen Pavia at 760.347.3512, extension 248.
