Medical Examiner Says Rob and Michele Reiner Died From Multiple Sharp Force Injuries
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has determined that Rob and Michele Reiner died from multiple sharp force injuries, officially ruling their deaths a homicide, according to records released Wednesday.
The medical examiner’s findings indicate that the couple’s deaths were caused by injuries inflicted by a sharp or pointed object. Authorities have alleged that the Reiners’ son, Nick Reiner, fatally stabbed his parents. Prosecutors said during a news conference Tuesday that a knife was used in the killings.
According to the records, Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner died on Sunday, December 14. Their bodies were discovered later that day at the couple’s West Los Angeles home, prompting a call to authorities.
A source familiar with the investigation said the Reiners’ daughter, Romy, checked on her parents around 3 p.m. and discovered their bodies in the master bedroom. She then went to her nearby home and asked a friend staying with her to call 911.
Police have confirmed that both victims were found inside the master bedroom of the residence. The medical examiner also noted that the Reiners’ remains are ready to be released to their next of kin.
While Nick Reiner has been accused in the case, investigators have released few details about what may have led up to the alleged attack. A source told CNN that Nick Reiner was seen arguing with his father at a holiday party Saturday night at the Los Angeles home of Conan O’Brien. Michele Singer Reiner was also present at the gathering.
Nick Reiner appeared briefly in court on Wednesday, where a judge scheduled his arraignment for January 7. The case remains under investigation, and authorities have said additional details may be released as proceedings continue.
