Tim O'Brien Shares the Latest for Firebirds at the Cathedral City Boys & Girls Club Holiday Posada
Holiday cheer filled the air Thursday night at the Cathedral City Boys & Girls Club as hundreds of local children and families gathered for the organization’s annual Holiday Posada. The festive event brought together community partners, volunteers, and a familiar face from the ice — the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
NBC Palm Springs Sports Director Tim O’Brien was on site alongside Firebirds mascot Fuego, highlighting the team’s continued commitment to giving back during the holiday season. The celebration featured toy shopping for children, warm meals, and special appearances from Santa and Mrs. Claus, all aimed at making the holidays brighter for families in need.
More than 500 people were signed up to attend the event, with approximately 120 children arriving each hour to select gifts. Many of the toys were donated during recent community drives, including a bingo fundraiser hosted at Roost Lounge. Volunteers and staff helped guide children through the experience, ensuring every child left with a smile.
Scott Robinson of the Cathedral City Boys & Girls Club emphasized the importance of the event, noting that it showcases the generosity and kindness present throughout the Coachella Valley. Robinson also highlighted a recent milestone for the club — a new transportation van that now allows the organization to serve middle school students from an additional campus for the first time in two decades.
The Firebirds’ involvement comes as the team continues its strong season on the ice, with a recent 4-2 win bringing them within striking distance of the top spots in the standings. There is also the upcoming Teddy Bear Toss game at Acrisure Arena on Friday, where stuffed animals thrown onto the ice will be donated to local children during emergencies.
